Year 11 Basketball Moderation
Posted on: 11/03/2025Blenheim 52 v 23 Three Rivers
The Year 11 GCSE PE students who are being assessed in basketball competed in a moderation match against Three Rivers on Friday 7th March. They were superbly supported by some of the year 9 basketball team to help give experience and continuity from the practices to the competitive match. The first quarter started slowly for Blenheim with many of the plays being reactive rather than controlling the game in our usual way. Three Rivers capitalised on this and scored the first basket. Blenheim’s GCSE students knew they had to step up and focus on completing the basic skills at a higher level. This helped to motivate Blenheim to tighten up on their defence by being basket side as well as demonstrating effective communication to control the game. Blenheim’s game did then improve however they needed to increase the pace of passing and dribbling in the mid court to be more successful. Many attempts at shooting were missed as shots were being taken from outside the three point line in a panic instead Blenheim needed to use their agility to dodge into the key to be in a better shooting position and increase their success rate. Some lay up attempts were successful which kept Blenheim in the game. At the end of the first quarter, Blenheim knew they had to improve and I am pleased to say that they did. The second and third quarters had an injection of pace and players were cutting into the keyto pick up the lay ups and rebounds successfully scoring. Blenheim’s defence also improved with many players getting back for man to man marking as well as zone defence thwarting the offence and regaining possession. Blenheim had improved their success in shooting by driving in for layups, scoring free throws with a few successful three pointers too. The fourth quarter was simply maintaining the lead they had built up.
