Blenheim High 8 v 1 Epsom and Ewell High

Last Thursday Blenheim High School welcomed Epsom and Ewell High School for a league fixture.
After a 15-minute warm up Blenheim and Epsom and Ewell were ready, with Epsom and Ewell
winning the toss and electing to kick off. With a huge crowd assembled around the pitch the
tension was high. The teams kicked off with Blenheim immediately on the front foot. Playing a 3-
5-2 formation provided Blenheim with the upper hand in the Midfield and saw Epsom and Ewell
struggle to maintain a foothold in the game. Eventually this pressure proved fruitful with
Blenheim securing an early goal via Oscar and going 1-0 up. Epsom however regrouped, starting
to exploit the wings and getting joy, especially down Blenheim’s left-hand side causing Blenheim
to concede.

Conceding the equaliser stirred Blenheim up with a well worked corner resulting in a header for
Euan to secure a second goal and saw Blenheim go 2-1 up. Epsom and Ewell responded well and
working the ball well around the midfield. A lucky break provided Blenheim to win the ball back
followed by a foul by Epsom and Ewell resulting in a free kick awarded to Blenheim. Up stepped
Ben who sent the free kick into the top left-hand corner sparking huge celebrations from the
home crowd, Blenheim were 3-1 up going into the break.

At the start of the second half, Blenheim went on the attack again and were immediately
rewarded. Some tricky feet from Eduardo saw an Epsom and Ewell defender leave a leg out with
Eduardo being fouled, and a penalty called. Up stepped Oscar who sent the keeper the wrong
way, Blenheim were now leading 4-1. The lead allowed Blenheim to play some intricate Football
with Epsom and Ewell struggling to keep pace with the speed of the game. Throughout the
second half Blenheim ran wild, securing four additional goals that saw the score finish 8-1 to
Blenheim with celebrations all around from the boys and the crowd.
