The Year 9 Boys’ Basketball Team who beat Kingston Academy during a tournament last week met with the Headteacher this week to celebrate their performance with some tasty refreshments. Well done Charlie, Finn, Liam, Herkus, Sami, John, Jack, Arun and Rhys. Match report below!

Blenheim 50 v 26 Kingston Academy

Congratulations to the U14 Boys Basketball Team who won their Surrey Schools’ League match against Kingston Academy. The match started at a slower than usual pace for Blenheim so Finn lead by example and used some excellent offensive breaks into space under the basket spreading Kingston’s defence which in turn created space for Charlie to perform 3 lay ups in quick succession putting the first scores on the board. Charlie used his knowledge and understanding of the game to control the pace and with anticipation and foresight to look up and pass to Finn and Herkus who in turn scored successfully. Finn performed successful lay ups from both right and left hand sides of the court which came straight from practice drills. Blenheim’s defence was tested but Liam was steadfast in his position making many blocks and forcing errors, performing man to man marking very effectively. John used great dribbling skills on the left side of the court and drove towards the basket maintaining possession. Herkus executed every shot to perfection and was a force to be reckoned with using excellent agility around defenders and creating space for himself to perform many successful lay ups and shots around the key.

In the second quarter Sami reinforced Blenheim’s offence and put into practice the V-cut from practice to get behind defenders in the key with excellent power and strength to shoot successfully as well as draw the foul. Sami successfully scored the free throws adding further points to the score board. Jack was incredible in his confidence to take on defenders and use his height to his advantage to drive under the defence and up towards the basket scoring two successful lay ups. Arun played intelligently by selecting the most appropriate passes and taking on defenders to support the attacking play as well as sprinting back to defend the key. Rhys played brilliantly in defence with some great rebounding under the basket. Charlie showed excellent leadership skills to ensure all players were involved on court in each play making Blenheim a difficult team to predict and allowing everyone in the team to contribute to the final score.
