The Great Big Dance Off National Finals

Posted on: 01/07/2024

On Monday 1 July, 26 students across years 8, 9, 12 & 13 represented the school at the Great Big Dance Off Grand National Finals and were nothing short of outstanding. This Finals event took place at the prestigious Cheltenham Town Hall and is where those who have won or placed 2nd in the Regional heats around England then compete against each other in the hopes of becoming National champions. The standard of this competition is extremely high, but with our KS3 Team being London Regional champions and our KS5 team placing 2nd at the Regional heats, we were deserving to be there.

Students were up bright and early and travelled by coach to Cheltenham. They then rehearsed on stage and in only a 5 minute time slot had to work out how to perform their routine with different stage dimensions, no wings and no back curtain. They dealt with these challenges excellently and then spent more time rehearsing in our larger dressing room space. A testament to their work ethic and determination to succeed.

Once rehearsals were complete for all schools, the competition began at 4.00pm and wow there were some phenomenal choreographies! Both the KS3 and KS5 team performed amazingly well and I'm so unbelievably proud of their achievements. The energy the students had was electric and they really gave it their all. The KS3 Team performed their piece 'Pirates' with incredible dynamism and brilliant facial expressions, whilst the KS5 Team showcased their strength and power in their piece 'Warriors'.

I'm extremely pleased to announce the following results;

KS3 Team - 13th out of 21.

KS4/5 Team - 6th out of 18 (8 points clear of 7th place).

Despite being a very long day and the students not arriving back to school until 10.30pm, this competition is a wonderful way to finish the academic year. The students have been incredible to work with and were polite, respectful and true role models for Blenheim. Looking forward to seeing what next year brings!
