This week a group of Years 9-12 Blenheim musicians attended a wonderful concert of Mendelssohn symphonies and his Piano Concerto No.1 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. It was of particular interest as one of the pieces was Symphony No. 4, which is one of the set works for A Level Music. The concert was performed by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with the musicians playing instruments dating from the 1800s, thus giving the audience an authentic musical experience. Pupils were also treated to a backstage tour by the orchestra's Executive Director where they saw the performer's green room, the fortepiano from the 1850s being tuned and production room. It was an amazing experience!
