Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Posted on: 27/04/2022On Friday last week, 34 year 10 students travelled to the Chilterns in order to complete their silver Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition.
After a quick briefing from the assessors, students left on a circular 16km walk with most arriving back at the campsite by 16:00. Once tents had been erected, students embarked on a game of rounders and some frisbee! Students, had to cook their evening meals involving a lot of pasta. Finally, students then then planned their routes for the next day.
The next morning, students woke up around 06:00 with the sunrise and began sorting their kit out ready to leave on their slightly longer day 2 walk. Students again arrived at around 16:00 and set up camp, a very different experience to the previous night as Blenheim had to share the campsite with 4 other schools!
On Sunday morning, students awoke to the cacophony of the dawn chorus which also included two cockerels and strangely enough, a horse! After breakfast, students all left by 08:30 in good spirits, ready to finish their qualifying expedition.
The instructors were incredibly impressed with Blenheim's students throughout the expedition and were particularly impressed at how efficiently they completed the walk on the last day. Many students had finished before 14:00! Luckily, there were a couple of table tennis tables to keep students entertained. There were debriefs from the instructors. Blenheim's Duke of Edinburgh staff are very proud of this group and are confident that most will want to progress to Gold in year 12.
