Blenheim 56 v Winston Churchill 51

Congratulations to the U14 boys basketball team who played their hearts out to defeat WinstonChurchill. This was a very close match and the result could have gone either way. Blenheim started out more cautiously in the first quarter often being out played by one of the oppositions forwards who linked up with a trio of players to score 21 points in 8 minutes. Blenheim worked hard to keep their heads up and responded with successful shots from Finn and Charlie putting 4 points onto board for Blenheim. In the second quarter John continued to maintain possession on the left side of the court and scoring three lay ups and rebounds from under the basket. Liam was steadfast in his defence on the counter attack and thwarted Winston Churchill's forwards through great timing of his blocks. Daniel showed confidence under the basket by adding are bounded shot to the total. At half time Blenheim had narrowed the gap at 21-27. After some super subs from Jack, Herkus, Noel, Sami, James and Arun added depth and the width of play with excellent passing and moving to further create scoring opportunities. Blenheim were using some set plays in the form of stacking from sideline and end line passing to move into the key and with ever growing confidence helped to keep the baskets flowing. Charlie scored free throws and a 3 pointer which again lifted the team. The final quarter was exhilarating with baskets being scored at either end of the court. Blenheim’s determination, resilience, and team spirit to work for each other and the belief they could outwit their opponents 56-51.
