MUN Conference at Reigate Grammar
Posted on: 09/10/2024Twelve students represented Blenheim High School at ReiMUN28 last weekend; Reigate Grammar’s annual Model United Nations conference. Our students formed two delegations representing Canada and Iran. For many it was their first conference and I was so proud of the way they got involved in their various committees, speaking and voting on resolutions. The day started with an opening ceremony and the raising of the UN flag. Students then went to committees to propose, debate and vote on resolutions. The General Assembly gathered in the afternoon to hear an address from Mark Bowden CMG about his work with the UN before a session voting on the committee business of the day. The students were fantastic representatives for Blenheim. There are several benefits to taking part in a MUN Conference. It improves students’ debating and communication skills, it reminds them of the importance of oracy and speaking correctly and it lets them know that you do not have to pay to go to school to be successful in life! Blenheim students said: ‘You meet new people, you learn a lot and it’s fun. It significantly improves your soft skills through intelligent discussion.’ (Ben Year 10). Year 12 student Evie said: ‘You make friends!’
