A win for Blenheim in the Year 7 & 8 NSSSA Tournament
Posted on: 30/01/2024The combined Year 7 & 8 Football team travelled to Three Rivers this week to play in the North
Surrey 7-a-side Football Tournament organised by Fontana.
Blenheim 2 v 0 Hinchley Wood
Their first match was against Hinchley Wood. Within the first minute, Imogen scored resulting in
an enthusiastic celebration from the rest of the team. Hinchley Wood did not let that dampen
their spirits and to their credit looked threatening. Annie was a solid defensive wall in goal for
Blenheim. The win was sealed when Olivia blasted another goal in, making the final score 2-0.
Blenheim 1 v 1 St Andrew’s | Blenheim 0 v 0 Therfield
The second and third matches were against St Andrews and Therfield and both resulted in a tie,
1-1 and 0-0 as Blenheim came up against some strong individual players who used Blenheim's
high defensive line to their advantage.
Blenheim 3 v 0 Three Rivers A
Blenheim's fourth match was against Three Rivers' A team which was a match the team really
focussed on. Imogen was desperate to add to her goal tally and had one hit the cross bar and
one fly just over. Maisie came to the rescue and slotted the first goal in for Blenheim which
energised the team. Within 2 minutes, Olivia found herself unchallenged on the wing and fired an
unstoppable shot into the corner. Buoyed by the team's success, Imogen got her wish and scored
in the last few minutes of the game, making the final score 3-0.
Blenheim 3 v 0 Three Rivers B
Blenheim's last game was against Three Rivers' B team and saw an excellent performance by Erin
who read the play beautifully in defence, preventing counter-attacks. Olivia scored about 30
seconds after the start of the game and followed this with another one a few minutes later. The
team had really started to gel by this point and unfortunately for Three Rivers, this resulted in a
great team goal scored by Maisie.
Blenheim won the tournament and received medals and a well-deserved trophy to add to the
cabinet at school. Well done to all!
