Laine Theatre Arts Workshop
Posted on: 27/11/2023The Year 10, 12 and 13 Dance students took part in a Jazz workshop led by Jacqui Jameson, Head of Jazz at Laine Theatre Arts. The workshop was 90 minutes long and comprised of an explosive warm up, technique exercises including corner work, learning original repertoire from Bob Fosse's 'Bye Bye Blackbird' and a humorous cool down.
Bob Fosse is one of the pioneers of Jazz Dance and as such his style is very distinctive. Students really enjoyed learning the intricacies of hand and foot placement along with challenging rhythms and changes of direction. If that wasn't enough of a challenge, they also had hats as props to contend with! Students performed brilliantly at the end of the session and it was a joy to see them throw themselves into something new.
Jacqui's energy was outstanding and brought a real sense of professionalism coupled with fun to the workshop. She reminded us why we love to dance and how expressive dance can be. The workshop finished with an insightful question and answer session with Jacqui and two current Laine Theatre Arts students. Blenheim students asked questions surrounding what professional training and teaching is like and the answers provided the students with a detailed understanding of what it's like to dance and perform at a high level.
An incredible workshop and we can't wait for the next one!
