Year 8 girls' netball tournament
Posted on: 05/10/2023I would like to say a huge congratulations to our Year 8 team who have won their first Netball tournament of the year! The girls worked incredibly hard and worked well against tough competition. The team played against5 schools in total, winning every match!
Blenheim v St Andrew’s: 12-2
The team were off to a fantastic start during the first match of the day. Violet had fantastic accuracy in her shots, even from a range of distances. Bella easily intercepted the ball, and Abi B was always ready to collect the rebound, which denied the opposition second chances.
Blenheim v Ashcombe: 5-4
The team faced some tough competition during this match, which meant that the girls had to remain incredibly focused throughout. The team communicated effectively to call for the ball, and to direct each other into a good space. The speed and accuracy of Lucy's passes meant that ball made it into the goal third with ease. Bella and Amy applied pressure to the opposing team to slow down their attacking play. The girls reflected on their performance and concluded that their focus for the next game would be to mark their players more effectively.
Blenheim v Rosebery: 5-4
Occasional hurried passes lead to the opposition intercepting the ball a few more times than we would have liked during this match. However, the girls were able to refocus themselves during half time. The team rethought their strategies and tactics, which meant they were stronger in the second half. The girls effectively marked their players, and placed pressure onto the other team, resulting in a win.
Blenheim v Hinchley Wood: 3-1
Emily and Abi H were able to maintain possession of the ball during this match, and we saw some amazing interceptions from Lucy. Their accurate passes and communication helped the team to secure the fourth win of the day. Leah and Violet worked well together to get into a great position to shoot, and to collect the rebound when needed.
The final: Blenheim vs Cobham: 5-1
The girls kept their cool during the final. The defence worked well to place pressure on the opposing team, and Leah was able to easily get around her opponent to receive the ball. The whole team worked really well together to secure their first tournament win! I am so proud of the team!
