BLENHEIM 27 v 97 ST ANDREW‘S

I am very proud of how Blenheim played and conducted themselves in their recent match. From a disadvantaged starting point, they kept their heads held high and played their hearts out. For context, five of the usual team were not available to play for a few reasons, therefore there was only 4 year 11 players for the match and we are very grateful for the year 10 and year 9 players who stepped up at short notice to ensure the match could still go ahead. Any cancellation would leave a negative mark against our name. Despite the final score, Blenheim showed incredible determination and resilience throughout each quarter against the might of very strong opposition. Even though Blenheim lost to a more experienced and better team there is always positives for the individual players and team to learn which makes for improvements over time.

Jonny showed great leadership on the court and lifted the Blenheim team scoring four 3 pointers in quick succession as well as a successful shot score from 15m out! Jake injected the much needed pace from defence to offence and back to defence and used his extremely high levels of  cardiovascular and muscular endurance to play three positions at once. Jakes power, strength and agility in these positions was fantastic as he scored lay ups in every quarter. His strength of character and determination made vital interceptions and defence to prevent the opposition score going into triple figures. Rian used his strength in and around the key to keep Blenheim in possession and used great footwork and agility so that no 3 second violations were called by the referees. Miles showed great ball handling in dribbling up the court and kept possession outside the three point line and assisted in the creation of Blenheim's points. Miles also slowed down the oppositions offence by stealing the ball mid dribble in the centre of the court. David's confidence grew as the match progressed and improved his speed of thought and awareness on the court.

We are grateful that Atticus, Baron and Jeffery could play at short notice and they gained match experience in a high paced match and it was good to see how much their confidence grew throughout the match. Atticus showed improved passing and movement into space. Baron dribbling through the defence to score a fantastic lay up adding to Blenheim's points and Jeffery communicated well and found space to draw the defenders away.
