Blenheim races in the Greenpower Challenge at Goodwood
Posted on: 19/05/2023On Sunday the 30th of April, Blenheim entered the Greenpower Challenge at Goodwood Motor Circuit. The challenge is to drive as far as possible in ninety minutes driving self-built cars powered by two 12-volt batteries. We entered two teams, which placed 35th and 55th in a competitive field of 60 teams. Further, we were awarded with Siemens Sustainability award for using upcycled materials in the construction of our car.
Below is the race report written by Ollie:
'After a 6am start and loading the van with the cars we set off to Goodwood in high spirits. After we’d unpacked,we got ready to go to scrutineering. Both our Cars passed! However, after returning to the paddocks, we realised there were still some issues to sort out such as, rubbing brakes and broken battery clips. Then it was time for practice, after performing well in this session, we started to prepare for the first race. However, another issue arose with the chain meaning one of our cars had to start from the pits. Following a valiant effort in the 1strace we set all had lunch and played a game of football against a rival school which we won comfortably.Fortunately, we made it to the grid for the 2nd race and after a solid performance we celebrated another year of not coming last with some non-alcoholic champagne. It was time to leave, or so we thought. We managed to with the sustainability award for our 1st car due to its composition of “recycled materials”. Unfortunately, due toa broken clutch we had to wait at Goodwood for an extra couple of hours but after finally making it back to Blenheim we were greeted by Mr Adams the undisputed GOAT who had been working all day, what dedication. The team all want to say a huge thanks to Mr Wilkinson and all other parents involved in making the day happen.'
