Year 10

Blenheim High School

Andrew’s Catholic School

The Year 10 football team looked to carry on their unbeaten run in the league. Blenheim played on a wet and windy Tuesday evening on the astro turf. Blenheim played to a high standard, keeping possession in all areas. Harry scored the first goal, however, unfortunately Blenheim conceded just before half time with a goal from St Andrew’s Catholic School.

After an end to end second half, the game finished in a draw. The unbeaten run continues.

Year 9

Cobham Free School

Blenheim High School

The dawn of the New Year promised many things for the Year 9 boys’ team, particularly under the exciting new system that offered so much promise in our previous fixture. Playing a back three of Finn, Rico and Billy had previously offered stability and assurance but sadly, Blenheim’s efforts against Cobham Free School didn’t reap the rewards they deserved.

Pundits regularly cite the cliché of football being a game of two halves. Attackers Harry and Alfie started brightly but could not take their chances; key moments that would come back to hurt Blenheim. Cobham pounced with a double salvo in the 10 minutes to go 2-0 up. Both goals arose from defensive errors which set the tone for the remainder of the half. Tom and Mikey found themselves pinned in by a dynamic Cobham midfield but technical ability and determination meant Blenheim still threatened the opposition goal.

Just as momentum seemed to be growing and Aidan and Luca ‘bombed’ the flank, two further defensive lapses cost Blenheim dearly, putting them 4-0 down at the break. Moments of madness resulted in a score line which was not a true reflection of Blenheim’s performance up until that point.

Through the season the year 9 boys’ have demonstrated a solidarity that is to their credit. Although there was a certain amount of freedom in the second half, due to the score line, the boys’ determination and ability was clear as Mikey slotted a fantastic team goal into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to make it 4-1.

The remainder of the game saw Blenheim pressing high and winning 50/50s across the pitch in a desperate attempt to claw back a result. Blenheim won the second half with the game ending at 4-1. Perhaps the highlight of the day was the attitude of the boys in the changing room at full time. They knew they had played well and supported each other through their mistakes. Win as a team and lose as a team, ready for a big training session next week.
