What is Life Skills and Wellbeing (PSHE) Education?

“PSHE education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain.”
“Evidence shows that well-delivered PSHE programmes have an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.”
PSHE Association

Life Skills and Wellbeing is a planned program of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives. As part of a whole school approach, Life Skills and Wellbeing develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. The program is divided into six modules of study –

  • Celebrating Diversity and Equality
  • Relationships and Sex Education
  • Rights and Responsibilities, including British Values
  • Staying Safe Online and Offline
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Life Beyond School (Careers)

All year 7 to 11 students have dedicated Life Skills and Wellbeing lessons, tailored to equip them with the life skills needed to be happy and successful members of the community. Below is a link to the full Life Skills and Wellbeing programme for this academic year along with a guide for parents. Life Skills and Wellbeing is not only limited to specialist lessons but can be taught across a range of different subjects, as well as trips, year group assemblies and through specialist speakers to address more sensitive issues.
